At nearly 30 feet above street level, a vacant wooded lot overlooking a nearby lake was seen as the ideal site for a new 2,000 square foot house. Functional open interior space and a moderate budget were the highest priorities. However, the owners were also looking for energy efficiency, as well as an efficient site design that would tread lightly and provide both useable and elegant outdoor space. ARK went with a single story, low-profile structure that extends horizontally across its rolling topography. Copious window and door openings lead to front and back porches which extend the space into the outdoors. A high central foyer and dining axis bisect the space with operable clerestory windows, providing light and natural cooling.
